Banka honored as Good Neighbor Award recipient

Outgoing AAR President Debra Greene and Sunny Banka.

Sunny Banka's commitment to the Aurora community is exceptional; her dedication to improving conditions for Aurora and its population is strong. The Aurora Association of REALTORS® honored her hard work in the community with the Good Neighbor Award.

The honor, which was presented to Banka at the Association's Inaugural in September, highlights the ongoing efforts of a member who makes exceptional efforts to improve quality of life in the community. Actions can include involvement in affordable housing issues, education, initiatives supporting youth, the elderly or underprivileged people, crime prevention or work on any other community-based program.

Banka, broker/owner of Metro Brokers Sunny Homes and Associates, serves her community in numerous ways through hours of volunteer work. Those many hours make her a very Good Neighbor to the people of her community.

During the past year, Banka donated her time to serve on the City of Aurora's Citizen's Advisory Budget Committee, the Housing and Community Development Committee, the Community Development Loan Committee, and the Community Development Commercial Loan Committee. She also chaired the Police Task Force Budget Committee. In a year in which city budgets are of high concern, the Association is pleased to have a member on these committees; the decisions coming from these groups will have an effect on every member of our community in the years to come.

Through active involvement in her church, Banka is involved in numerous community projects to help people in need or for the betterment of the community. She is actively involved in Colorado Cares Day and has been involved in clean up committees along Sand Creek Canal and in service groups providing assistance for the elderly.

Banka served as chairwoman for the CAR State Legislative Committee that carried the bill for Homeowner's Property Insurance Reform that was successful in the last legislative session. She will play a key role on the CAR State Legislative Committee for the 2005 session.

AAR is proud to recognize Banka with this year's Good Neighbor Award. She received a recognition certificate at the Inaugural and has chosen to donate the $250 contribution to the City of Aurora Home Owner's Assistance Program (HOAP). Banka has been involved in that program since its inception and donates her time to instruct first-time homebuyers through that program.
